Questions from the tent door
A few answers, before the oven timer dings.
Series dates (UK and US), who’s in the tent, what counts as a handshake, and how this unofficial archive works — short and warm.
The show
When does Series 17 start?
In the UK, The Great British Bake Off Series 17 premieres on Channel 4 on Tuesday 22 September 2026 at 8pm, with new episodes on Tuesdays. A cast of twelve bakers was announced around 7 September 2026. The finale date hasn’t been announced yet — this page will update when it is.
When does it land on Netflix in the US?
US viewers get it as The Great British Baking Show: Collection 14 on Netflix starting Friday 25 September 2026, with new episodes every Friday. That’s a few days after the UK Channel 4 Tuesday premiere.
Who’s hosting and judging Series 17 — and what about Prue?
Hosts are still Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond. On the bench, Paul Hollywood returns and Nigella Lawson joins after Prue Leith stepped down ↗ in early 2026 following nine series. More on Nigella: her Bake Off announcement ↗, and a longer Wikipedia bio ↗.
UK Series vs US Collection — what’s the difference?
UK numbering is the show’s home count (Series 3–16 in this archive so far; Series 17 is the new tent). US Netflix often labels later seasons as “Collections” — Series 17 is Collection 14 there — and the numbers don’t always match one-to-one. Each handshake page notes both when known.
This archive
Is this official?
No. Handshake-Worthy is an unofficial, unaffiliated fan archive — made from outside the tent with joy. Not affiliated with The Great British Bake Off, Love Productions, Channel 4, Netflix, or Paul Hollywood. Attribution notes ↗
What’s a Hollywood handshake (and what isn’t)?
A Hollywood handshake is the on-screen handshake from Paul Hollywood. Star Baker, applause, or warm praise without that gesture doesn’t count here.
How many handshakes are in the archive?
There are 65 verified handshakes on file (UK Series 3–16 so far), with methods on 58 of them. New ones get added when they’re solidly confirmed. Browse the index ↗
Why is a recipe missing or marked as a recreation?
Methods only appear when there’s a published source to attribute. Exact tent recipes are preferred; when the only public method is a clear recreation or adaptation, that’s disclosed on the page. Gaps stay honest rather than invented. Know where to find one? Let Jon know at jon@handshake-worthy.com.
Where do recipes and photos come from?
Recipes come from published pages — official GBBO, BBC Food, and other sources that are linked on each bake. Photos are gathered for the fan archive and credited when a source is known.
Bakers & visiting
Can I eat a baker’s food or take a class?
Sometimes. When a handshake baker has a shop, class, commission, or hospitality project with a public link, it’s gathered under Out in the world. Out in the world ↗
How do bakers get listed or corrected?
Public links and corrections are always welcome. Send a note to jon@handshake-worthy.com.
