About the baker
A little more of the person behind the handshake.
Rahul Mandal won series 9 after turning precision, curiosity and big-hearted flavour combinations into a formidable tent presence. A research engineer by background, he has gone on to teach, write and share recipes that carry the warmth of his Indian heritage alongside classic British baking.
Rahul Mandal baked on 9 (2018) of The Great British Bake Off. 3 Hollywood handshakes are on file — Chocolate-orange layer/collar cake, Showstopper (2 / Cake); Bonfire Night caramel-ginger cake, Signature (5 / Spice); Paneer singara and misti singara samosas, Signature (6 / Pastry). One of those moments came on a Showstopper.
He collected three handshakes in series 9, including the first documented Showstopper handshake.
